Sat, 26 Mar 2016 05:35:59 +0000/?p=42#comment-4569I must say I am clearly very boring because I knew exactly what you meant by the title and had no immediate thoughts of sex whatsoever…

Mon, 21 Mar 2016 13:08:34 +0000/?p=42#comment-4543I tend to think that no matter what, no matter where, somebody will link any title in the world to sex! I love the title you went with in the end though 🙂 x

Mon, 22 Jun 2015 09:50:23 +0000/?p=42#comment-1601[…] I have written a post about mangoes (When there’s 20 Types of Mangoes but no Bananas: How I chose a name for my book), I do get quite a few people who use the word mango in their search (they must be very […]

Fri, 09 Jan 2015 10:00:10 +0000/?p=42#comment-37This is what you wrote – and thank you so much for this comment 🙂 Fascinating stuff Clara! It’s amazing how much work goes into what seems like the simplest thing. I can appreciate that on a much smaller scale when making titles for my blog posts. Sometimes it’s easy and straightforward, sometimes I get blocked and take forever. For what it’s worth I think your title is great and it would leap out at me if I was heading off on an overseas posting and looking for advice. I can’t wait to read the book itself.

Thu, 08 Jan 2015 16:18:05 +0000/?p=42#comment-32Love it – the term “housewife” obviously resonates in a similar way to “trailing spouse” – people “get” it but they don’t necessarily “love” it. I found chosing the title one of the hardest things about the whole process of producing the book – although actually finishing it may prove harder still now that I am being continually distracted by blogging…(plan for tomorrow – find somewhere with no internet access and get on with it!).

Thu, 08 Jan 2015 16:06:58 +0000/?p=42#comment-30Clara, I so loved this post. I can SOOOOOO feel for you with your title question. Just like you, I agonized over mine. I also had a working title I’d gotten used to, but then thought I need something catchier. And I just couldn’t make up my mind whether I wanted more information in the title so people could see right away what it was about (in my case, Kilimanjaro Diaires, very descriptive but a bit boring) or whether I wanted a more catchy, intriguing title (my editor’s idea was Pole Pole, after the term Kili tour guides use all the time urging you to go slowly). I nixed that one, as English speakers won’t know how to pronounce it, but still, so many questions. I, too, decided to ask my readers and friends, and while that gave me a ton of good feedback, it was frustrating as well because there was no consensus. I also had a run-in with a term that people either loved or hated and read a ton into, kind of like your fruit analogy. I wanted “housewife guide” or something like that in the subtitle to convey that anybody can do this, and to convey that I’m poking fun at myself, but boy did housewife stir some passions! You’d think it was a cuss word! Anyway, in case you’re interested, here are my two blog posts I write about what I called “Title-Gate”, maybe you’ll enjoy reading about someone else’s agony:-) https://evamelusinethieme.com/2014/02/19/judge-this-book-by-its-cover/ https://www.joburgexpat.com/2014/03/title-gate.html
