But in the end we decided that this is the best time to do it – while the children are still at primary level. And we realise that they will gain more from the life they lead, the people they meet, the things they see than they will lose in moving between curriculums. We’re also lucky these days that internet access makes it a lot easier to keep up with what they would be doing back home!

Often people don’t like to move their children because “schooling is not as good” “curriculum is different” “language becomes an issue in school” … And they have “split famililies” … And I have met and watched children who studied in the back of beyond in tiny schools, and not just coped but actually helped the school reach for the stars. And are now successful young corporate hot shots, doctors, engineers … And most of all caring and considerate humans. They have been exposed to varied cultures and this shows in their tolerance and acceptance of any and all races, religions and nationalities …

Mon, 02 Feb 2015 11:10:25 +0000/?p=179#comment-154When my son was somewhere around 4 or 5, my mom laughed that with her other grandchildren, they would play, “Let’s get into the car and go to the grocery store” but my son would say, “Let’s get into the plane and go to XXX for a meeting.” He has grown up associating different countries with the friends he made there and the times he got to visit and share their world. He doesn’t remember all the details now, butI think it has been fundamental the person he has become. I am very glad I had the chance to bring him with me as often as I did.

Another entry for TinyTravellers series coming from Clara, Expat Partner Survival Guide. I love this piece ! It shows exactly what I meant by saying that travelling makes kids more open minded, they learn to see deeper through the usual staples our society uses to describe people. Thank you, Clara!
