We used to have a gerbil who kept me company at home but sadly she died recently. We are thinking of getting a dog when we move to South Africa.

I have two kittens, who are fun and absolutely know how to amuse me. The way they approach me gingerly and softly place a paw on my leg. Or stare at my computer screen to check for mistakes or their own reflections! The way they suddenly dart over the couch, above my head to chase a fly or a bug or an ant.

I have asked anyone who is quoted in the book if they would like to be listed along with a few details and any website/blog they would like included. I emailed everyone but I suspect not all emails got through. If you would like to be can you email me [email protected] Thanks!

Wow – golf 4-5 times a week! I assume you’re not up for joining him ;)? I tried golf once and was HOPELESS! It’s a very expat sport but I just couldn’t get the hang of it. But I totally agree – social media is what keeps me going. People can mock FB all they want (and now blogging) but I would really struggle without it. The little guys and doll in the photo might look cute but they’re not great conversationalists…..

I can totally relate to this post. When the government shut down happened and I was sidelined “just till we get this budget worked out” (2 full years!) I thought I had hit the end of the road, my useful life was done, yet I had so much more I wanted to do! I went through the depression you wrote about recently, and by chance I happened across Judy Rickatson, whom I knew from Baku, and her blog led me to others in the Expat Partners Online Coffee group. I fully credit everyone there for keeping me sane and functioning during that long dark period.

Just as I started to be ok with being home, started making plans to go another direction, then the government decided oops, we’re ready now… I guess I had to be ok with the way things were before I could be useful to anyone else… or something like that.

I don’t have any kids at home to keep me busy and my new-ish husband plays golf 4-5 times each week so I can relate to being lonely at times. Thankfully you have us… and, of course, your new friends in the photo (which is so adorable). 😉
